Good News & Bad News

So let's recap the weekend shall we?

The Good News:

1:) I got my paining area set up

2:) Got some paining done...well...kinda. My daughter and I painted dragons. =)

3:) Came across a few new ideas and trying to incorporate them into the overall plan.

4:) I also came across a bin of bits for my Tyranids and found a bunch of the Devourers so my shooty bug list might actually work.

The Bad News:

1:) "Count As" army list. I was reading over the Grey Knights Codex and found out that there are no Librarians or Chaplains. These characters are only in Space Marine lists. So now I have a conflict. I want to model a librarian and chaplain but the glove mounted bolters are only for Grey Knights. One option is to play them as Grey Knights and just have one look like a Librarian and one look like a Chaplain but both play as normal Grey Knights. The other is to play them as Space Marines which would mean that all of the glove mounted guns wouldn't be the correct ones used by the models. The glove mounted gun is a stormbolter where as a character model such as my librarian, comander, seargent and chaplain carry a bolt pistol as a standard weapon. The troops carry the two handed bolter. All three weapons, the stormbolter, bolt pistol and bolter all play different in the game. I haven't checked yet to see if I can upgrade the characters to stormbolters yet. One possible solution would be to use these guys as terminators in a 1,500pts Space Marine List. I will have to explore this option later.

"Count As" Melee Weapon Selection

So here is what I will be attempting to create for my "count as" army for melee combat.

Halberd of Smiting This will be the standard weapon for most of the squad members. Need to pillage my chaos bits box for the spiky bits.

Corrupted Ashbringer Already working on some ideas to pin the skull inplace away from the blade giving it that floating look.

Grand Marshal"s Claymore Thinking about doing this for my commander but with horde colors so it will tie with the color scheme.

EDIT: Replying to comment
Shane Irons said: "...You've got to figure out how to fit at least one Arcanite Reaper in there. Pre burning Crusade it was the weapon to have."

I like this idea. I need a weapon for my Chaplain so this works out well.

Arcanite Reaper I should be able to use two of the Space Marine shoulder pads featured in the painted model picture below to get started on this.

EDIT: After picking a few brains...
Thanks to Shane again for this mace. I will be using this for my Librarian.

Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros

Any other ideas guys? Shane has provided me with quite a few already lol. Including one to incorporate the ever popular "pally bubble" on my Librarian. That would play as his invulnerable save in game lol.

Concept Idea in the works. I have some clear "stuff" comming in the mail so this could work.

Anything else guys?

Reviving Hive Fleet Kraken

So I've been thinking about it and have decided to revive my hive fleet. A while ago, a full bag of models were "misplaced" so last night I started by layout out what I still have...

Here is the list:

1 Hive Tyrant with 3 Tyrant Guards (2 still in box)
1 Brood Lord with a retinue of 11 Genestealers
34 Genestealers
25 Warriors
16 Hormagaunts (40 more still on sprew)
31 Terrorgaunts (32 more still on sprew)
2 Lictors
3 Carnifex (2 older models and one more still in box)
4 Biovores

I know I am missing about 48 Genestealers but I think I can still work with what I have. I will just be building a shooting bug list instead of the melee list like I was doing originally.

Inspirational World of Warcraft Poster

Tis so true...

"Count As" 500pt W40k Army

During the Labor Day Painting Extravaganza, we each decided to start a "Count As" army for small W40k games. A "Count As" army is simply a army filled with converted models for fun but can be played as a certain army and their rules.

My idea is not so much as a "count as", but more along the lines of "inspired by".

I will be attempting to create a 500pt Space Marine army which will resemble the World of Warcraft Paladin Judgement Armor Set. This army could be played as a basic Space Marine Army, the Blood Angels varient or the Dark Angels varient.

Here is the inspration for the models:
And here are some of the models and bitz I am currently looking at to convert to create something like the picture above:

Dusting off the paint brush

Over the Labor Day weekend, my friends Shane and Mike came down and we dusted off our paintbrushes. To say I got a little bit done would be an over statement. I spent a day painting with the wrong colors and sent 5 models to the trash bin. The next day I found the paint I should have been using and got to work again. My highighting technique was horribad. After conversing with my buds, I tried a technique called reverse highlighting which turned out really well and led to my first water slide application. I then managed to ruin 5 water slides before getting one on correctly. Oh well. 1 down, 59 to go I guess...
